Today, there are several types of strapping machines meant for commercial purposes. Choosing the right kind of machine will guarantee efficiency in your workplace while minimising the cost of packaging. When buying a semi-automatic strapping machine, look out for some standard features that characterise a great machine. These features include hinged stainless-steel top plates, rigid castor wheels with braking functions and mechanical tension control features. Besides that, you also need to know the ways of diagnosing mechanical issues on your semi-automatic strapping machine. Here is a guide that will help you when it comes to that:

The Machine Won't Power Up

A majority of new users often have trouble getting the machine to power up. Start by checking that your strapping machine and the power switch are both in the 'on' position. If these are okay, extend your examination to the fuse in the power supply cable, looking for abnormal discolouration and a faint smell of burned plastic. Any of these signs will tell you that the fuse is not working properly. You also need to check the fuse located next to the machine's motor for similar signs.

Bad fuses will require you to call in a professional who will replace them accordingly.

Trouble Feeding the Strap From the Coil Holder to the Table Top

Normally, you need to the strap at the coil holder so that it goes through the up shute and eventually ends up at the table top. This will not happen if there is a problem with the strap shute. The most common ailment of the strap shute is a blockage. Strap debris and dirt often find their way into the channel when you are handling materials. Gladly, the strap shute is easy to access and inspect. Loosen the screws and remove the top half of the machine to enable access. You will encounter a moveable quadrant, which will not hinder access significantly. Just ensure that you mark its position should you need to move it when cleaning the strap shute.

Failure to Seal the Strap

The final stage of the strapping process is sealing the strap. The machine should bind and fasten the straps at the tip for them to hold your material together. When this does not happen, there could be two problems with the machine. First, the heater might be off, prompting you to check the heater signal light found on the control panel. Secondly, you need to look at the heater fuse for signs of damage from excess current or usage.
