If you are in the process of setting up an industrial manufacturing plant, you may be considering how you can incorporate timer relays into your set up. A timer relay is a piece of equipment that will form part of an electronic circuit. Relay timers can be used for a variety of industrial uses such as managing the movement of a conveyer belt, controlling the application of paint to new products and controlling the movement of bucket elevators that are moving material around the industrial plant. The type of timer you need will depend on what you intend to use the equipment for. The different types of timers can be used for different purposes. Read on to discover everything you need to know about the different types of timers that are available.

On-delay timers

This type of timer is designed to commence operation when voltage begins to travel through the circuit. Once a set duration of time has passed and the timer ends, the contacts that are carrying the voltage will close. As the contacts close, this will cut power to the circuit. If the electrical current is cut before the timer has expired, it will be reset for the next operation.

Off-delay timers

With this type of timer, nothing occurs when a voltage is allowed to travel through the circuit. The contacts will only open when you input a command into the control panel. As soon as the command is received from the control module, the timer will begin to count down. Once the timer has expired, the contacts will close and power will be cut.

Single-shot timers

A single-shot timer is quite similar to the off-delay set up. Nothing occurs when a voltage is applied to the circuit. When a command is given to close the inputs from the command module, the voltage will be able to flow through the timer and the countdown will begin. The operator can switch the current on and off while the timer is counting down without resetting the clock. Once the timer has expired, the relay will reset in preparation for the next cycle.
